Jazmine Sullivan and D’Angelo will share some deep and personal soliloquies for Audible’s Words + Music series. Announced Wednesday, the stars’ installments will debut in 2023 alongside one from Jeff Tweedy, the frontman of the Grammy-winning indie band Wilco.
Set to premiere February 3, Jazmine’s installment, The Art of Confessing, is an intimate diary entry she conceived and wrote with Clover Hope that tells a “story about the power of accountability, sisterhood, and finding new perspectives on love.” It sees her live performance from Philadelphia’s renowned World Café of songs including “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” “Let It Burn,” “Girl Like Me,” “Masterpiece (Mona Lisa)” and “Pick up Your Feelings,” which all speak to her growth as a woman.
In D’Angelo’s installment, recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios, he plays five different instruments, each of which help “him tell a different story, make a distinct point, and conjure new spirits.” “Sometimes those stories will be personal, sometimes metaphysical, sometimes musical,” a press release says. “Sometimes it’s about D’s music, and sometimes it’s about the art form itself, building to a musical crescendo and an unprecedented understanding of both the music and the man.” The untitled installment will debut on April 7.
Jazmine and D’Angelo join a list of artists who’ve contributed to the Words + Music platform, including John Legend, Mariah Carey, Smokey Robinson and Chuck D.
