Kendrick Lamar recently became the first solo hip-hop act to headline a Super Bowl halftime show, and it seems Travis Scott wants to join him on the history-making list.
In a cover story for Billboard‘s Sports Issue, he said that he has his heart set on one day headlining a halftime show for the NFL’s biggest event. Asked if it was on his bucket list, he said, “Hell yeah, man. Yeah, tell the [NFL] to hit me up. They know who to call. Word.”
Travis appeared as a guest during Maroon 5 halftime’s show in 2019, but he says the championship moment of his career was when he walked through SoFi Stadium with daughter Stormi and son Aire ahead of a performance.
“I remember my [3-year-old] son, [Aire] — he can talk — he was like, ‘Yo, who’s performing here?’ My daughter was like, ‘Daddy!’ My son was like, ‘All these people.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s going to be kind of turnt.’ He’s like, ‘For real?’ Stormi’s like, ‘Yeah,'” he recalls. “I always wanted to do stadiums, and it was kind of cool to have the little ones understand and know what I’m doing. They were amped for the show. So that was lit.”
Travis also discussed his next album, on which he’s still “striving to push things to a high level” as he did on Utopia. He adds he’s been having fun making music, being artistic and producing more, which is “making [the entire process] more exciting.”
Despite the support from fans, Scott says he’s also still “striving to prove what I’m here to do, what I mean and what I stand for, especially when it comes to performing.”
He continues, “Every day, I’m going to strive to show that greatness.”
