Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are reuniting for some music. In a post shared Wednesday, Snoop revealed the new tunes will come out in just a few months.
“Dynamic. Duo. Music comin summer 23,” wrote Snoop, who previously collaborated with Dre on “The Next Episode,” “Still D.R.E.” and more. The caption accompanied a throwback photo of the two rappers.
The announcement of Snoop and Dre’s upcoming music comes days after the Recording Academy presented Dre with the Global Impact Award, which is now named in his honor. Dee Barnes, a former journalist who accused Dre of assaulting her, has taken issue with the recognition.
“Everybody wants to separate the art from the artist, and sometimes that’s just not possible. Most people without a knowledge of [Dr. Dre’s] history are going to say, ‘Oh, he must deserve that. He must be such a great person for them to put an award in his name.’ But they named this award after an abuser,” Dee said in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“I’m not saying he is the same person now, though,” she said. “I don’t know. I’m not around him anymore. I haven’t talked to him. But to name an award after someone with that type of history in the music industry, you might as well call it the ‘Ike Turner Award.'”
Dee, a prominent hip-hop journalist in the early ‘90s, claimed Dre dragged her by the hair in 1991, smashed her face into a wall, kicked her and then stomped on her fingers during the incident. The rapper later apologized to the women he hurt in a New York Times article; he failed to mention Dee’s name.
