Lil Yachty says he doesn’t have a lot of friends in the music industry, but Drake is one of them. In a sit-down with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, he expressed his love for Drizzy, who is one of the people he talks to “on a daily basis” outside of his team.
“Shout out to Drake, man. I love him to death,” Yachty said. “Yeah, that’s my guy … Our relationship has just grown.”
“I feel like whatever he does, I did it. If he wins something, I feel like I just won,” he continued of their friendship, per HotNewHipHop. “He’s really, really smart. No matter how much he’ll act like he’s oblivious to his career and the things that he’s done, he knows what certain things and certain moments in his career mean to people.”
Drake was one of many who praised Yachty’s Let’s Start Here, rating the project 11/10. Yachty said he was trying to give fans “an experience” and “put you into a moment” with the album rather than create music with profound lyrics.
“I took a completely different approach with this album than I ever did in the process of creating something,” he said. “I’ve grown so much and I’ve changed so much as an adult in this process, so it all plays a factor and it all shows in this album.”
He’s now eager to see the response from fans when he goes on his first tour in five years. “I am dying to see people care to see me and hear me because I haven’t been onstage since I was like 19, 20,” Yachty said.
