(PHOENIX) — Five Phoenix police officers are in the hospital after being shot during a barricade situation at a house Friday, the department said.

Phoenix police was called to a shooting at a home. When an officer approached to help, the suspect opened fire, striking him multiple times, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams told reporters.

“There was a baby in the home, who at some point was placed in a carrier and placed outside,” Williams said.

She added, “As officers went to bring that baby to safety, the suspect continued to shoot, firing and striking four other officers. At that time our officers returned fire. The suspect then barricaded himself in the home.”

One woman was also critically injured in the early morning incident, police said, though it’s not clear how she is connected to the shooting.

The officers’ conditions were not immediately clear. Williams said, “One of them is seriously hurt but is on the road to recovery.”

The baby appears to be OK, police added.

Phoenix police have since tweeted, “The barricade situation has been resolved. There is no threat to the public.”
